ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is an invaluable method to gain medical information about your pregnancy in order to make an informed choice. Serenity Pregnancy Resource Center provides limited obstetrical ultrasounds between 6 and 20 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).  Every ultrasound is performed by a certified registered nurse who works under the supervision of a licensed physician.

An ultrasound can answer the following questions:

  • Do I have a viable pregnancy? (Can a fetal heartbeat be detected?)*

  • How far along am I? (The type of abortion procedure is based on this information.)

  • What is my estimated due date? (How much time do I have to make a decision?)

  • Is the pregnancy in the uterus? (Pregnancies that develop outside the uterus, known as ectopic pregnancies, can be life threatening.)

If you are considering abortion, pre-surgical testing such as ultrasound is recommended prior to setting up an abortion. Before any surgical procedure, diagnostic testing is important to determine which medical approach to take. All surgical procedures carry potential risk factors; protect yourself by knowing what those risks are.

*According to the Centers for Disease Control, there are anywhere from 14%-27% pregnancies that end in natural miscarriage. It is important to confirm the pregnancy so that further steps can be taken.
